Mom and I just got back yesterday from a scrapbooking weekend and boy are we tired! Although I wasn’t as crazy I usually am. I did actually sleep this time. I had a hard time with Patrick not wanting me to go away, but he survived anyway. We started scrapbooking on Friday morning and stopped Sunday afternoon. Today I have the day off to relax and unwind before returning to the work force. I got alot accomplished and only have a few more to do and I’ll be current with the kids pictures. I have decided to go back and do my wedding album into a scrapbooking layout style. So I’ll never be totally finished. I can’t wait for next years weekend.

Yes, the Nintendo Wii has the power to heal the lame. If any of you have been over to our house when Patrick is playing the Wii you know how he is jumping up and down. He’s crazy when he’s playing it. Well on Wednesday after I picked Patrick and his crutches up from school we went to Blockbuster to get the new Star Wars game for the Wii. When we got home I set up the game for him to play. Patrick sat on the couch bouncing up and down on his but. After about 5 mins he was hopping up and down on one foot. Then 5 mins after that he’s jumping up and down on both feet. I look at him and say, “Patrick does your foot feel better?” He replies, “Yes I don’t feel it anymore I can walk.” So I say great it’s time to change your bandage. So he walks over to the chair without crutches and sits down. I clean his stitches and put on fresh bandages. He goes to get up and walk back to the livingroom and starts crying that he can’t walk. He sits back down and cries for his crutches. I try to tell him he is fine now, but that didn’t work. I rebandged him two times thinking maybe something is hitting the stitches. Nope everything is fine. So I get him to the couch and start up the Wii and 10 minutes later he’s healed again. So Patrick is no longer on the crutches and he gets his stitches out next Monday. Thank Goodness!

Saturday morning I spent the day calling people for child size crutches. Patrick couldn’t walk on his foot and we were transporting him around on an office chair to get him to and from the bathroom. I finally found some at Charron Medical Supplies in Nashua, NH. I went to pick them up and couldn’t get over how small they were. I brought them home and adjusted them to Patrick and nearly cried when I saw him with them. The first day with them didn’t go so well. He refused to use them and would crawl to where ever he wanted to go. Memere how ever did get him to use them by taking him to Toys R Us. So he was a pro by the time he went to school on Tuesday. On Tuesday night I tried to tell Patrick he could bear weight on his foot and try to walk without the crutches. He was having none of that. So he remained on crutches.

Last Friday the boys were outside playing with some friends. Al and I were in the house talking about our day. When all of a sudden Radar our dog started to freak out and wanting to go outside. We didn’t know what was wrong with him. All of a sudden I hear this horrendous scream. I turn around and Patrick is coming through the door with blood all over his foot.I raced over and picked him up to look at the foot and there is a huge gash on the side and bottom of his foot. I handed him to Al and grabbed a towel to wrap around his foot to stop the bleeding. I grab my keys and we were out the door to the ER with Patrick screaming that he was going to die. We get to the hospital and rush in with Patrick still screaming. We sign him and in and proceed to wait. Unfortunatley to our disadvantage a young girl about 7 is being rushed in behind us with a 3rd degree burn all down her arm. They rushed her right into the ER thank goodness. After and hour wait we were put in the examination room. The nurse took the towel off to access the situation. Meanwhile Patrick has calmed down some. The doctor comes in who I have to tell you was awesome. He looked at the gash and told us what he was going to do. He leaves the room and Al steps out to call Memere to update her on the situation. When Al comes back into the room Patrick starts to ask me questions on what was going to happen. So I explained to him that they were going to come in with a gauze with some medicine and put it on his boo boo to take the pain away. He says, “Then what will they do?” So I proceed to explain that they will give him a little shot. He says, “In my arm?” I say no not in your arm. He gets this look of shear terror and mouth wide open as it can go and yells in my boo boo? I tell him no just near it. This calms him a little. Then he wants to know what else is going to happen. So I told him that they would clean it really good, but he won’t feel anything. Then after that they’ll stitch it up. He asked me what stitches were and I explained that they would sew the boo boo closed. He yells, “They’re going to make more holes in me!” Thank goodness the nurse came in to put the medicine on so we wouldn’t have to answer anymore questions. The nurse told us to call her in 20 minutes to remove the gauze. No sooner than the nurse walked out Patrick asked how many more minutes. I told him 20 he said, “No, how many more?” this went on every minute that passed until they removed the gauze. Then the doctor came with two nurses. One to hold each of Patrick’s leg in case he tried to move. The doctor gave Patrick his shot which he didn’t feel because of the earlier medicine. After the shot was given he started to clean the wound. Patrick calmly laid on the bed watching what the doctor was doing. To which the doctor asked the nurse if she gave the ativan to the right patient. Patrick was doing so good that both nurses didn’t need to be in the room. After the doctor finished stitching him up he showed Patrick how to count how many stitches he had in his foot.

The first day of school started on Sept. 2nd, 2008 for AJ and Patrick. This was Patrick’s first day of first grade. Mommy was handling as best as she could. I took the day off to see Patrick off on his first day. He couldn’t wait to get onto the bus with his brother and Austin. He didn’t even look back. When the bus pulled away I started to cry. It was a long day waiting for school to end so I could find out how his day was. The boys got off the bus and Patrick walked over to me and asked if he could go back to Kindergarten. The love affair with first grade was over.

On July 28th Patrick lost his first tooth. He was so excited that the Tooth Fairy was coming that night. We put the tooth in a special box and he placed it under his pillow. When the Tooth Fairy came to get the tooth Patrick was still awake and had to tell me that Patrick needed to be asleep. So I went into Patrick’s room and told him that the Tooth Fairy only comes when your sleeping. He fell right to sleep and the Fairy was able to complete her task. The next morning Patrick awoke to a new dollar bill.

I was so great to get together and talk about the old days and watch our kids play together. The weather was beautiful and the food was fantastic!!!!!! Joey and Jim did such a great job putting everything together. It reminded me of Thanksgiving get togethers when we were kids. We need to do this again sometime. Thanks Joey and Jim for a great day!

Yes you read it right. I said Happy Belated Fourth of July. It just goes to show you how busy the Vermettes have been since our last post. On the fourth of July this year I took the boys to Holman Stadium in Nashua, NH for the fireworks. In all my years I have never done this before and was bound and determined to take the boys. It also helped that I didn’t have to work the next day. We left three hours before the fireworks began so we could get a parking spot, plus a seat in the stadium. It took us 30 mins to find a spot which we decided that we were not giving up. We parked 5 blocks away and walked to the stadium. We got into the stadium no problem and found that there were a lot of seats empty. So the boys picked their seats and we waited for the fireworks. I would highly recommend bringing video games to entertain the kids while they wait. The Spartans Drum group performed while the fireworks went off. It was the best fireworks I have been to in my 39 years. I would fight the crowd again to go next year.

The Farlands and Vermettes spent the day at Canobie Lake Park in Salem, NH on Friday. The kids had such a good time. It was amazing how much Canobie has changed since I was a kid. My favorite additions to the park are the Boston Tea party and Castaway Island. AJ is now 56 1/2 ” and can now ride all the rides by himself. He took is first roller coaster ride on the corkscrew with Pepere. Patrick hung out with Maddie, Alison & Paris in the kiddie junction. Then we watched the Bob the Builder show. Then the kids decided they were hot and we headed to Castway Island which is alot of fun and you can easily spend the whole day in this section with the water slides. Maddie and AJ loved going down the water slides. We ended the day by all of us riding the train ride. Next year Patrick will be big enough to go on the big rides with AJ and I. I can’t wait!
